‘The guy’s pure quality’ – Roy Keane lathers praise on strikers’ ‘dream’ Man Utd star

Roy Keane, a former player for Manchester United, has heaped praise on star forward Bruno Fernandes, calling him “pure quality” and a “dream” for a striker.

Since his first day at United in January 2020, Fernandes has established himself as one of the club’s top players. He only spent the first part of his season at Old Trafford, but he left an enduring impression.

In actuality, the Portuguese had a direct hand in 15 goals throughout 14 Premier League contests. He enjoyed one of the greatest individual seasons in Premier League history the following year.

During the season, Fernandes tallied 18 goals and 11 assists. The attacking midfielder has played 175 games with the Red Devils and has contributed directly to 112 goals overall.

It follows that he is not only one of the greatest players on the United team but also among the best in the league. Nevertheless, the fact that he has remained in good shape during his time at United is advantageous.

Nothing changed as United travelled to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest. Although Fernandes had no real effect on the final score, Keane, a former United player, praised him for his outstanding performance.

“Brilliant, I really think he’s a brilliant player, he’ll be disappointed he didn’t obviously score, but his quality of his balls into the box – if you’re a striker it’s a dream, you make some runs and he picks you out,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Plenty of time today, he’s got a good relationship obviously with [Christian] Eriksen and all the guys around him. I just think he’s pure quality.”

Fernandes has been in line for criticism recently. The main occasion that has seen him called out for his behaviour of late was United’s 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool, in which he was clearly angry, seemingly due to not being subbed off.

The pundit alluded to the fact he’s hit out at Fernandes before, but noted he’s a different player when United are in form.

“I know we criticise him when United don’t win football matches. He’s two steps ahead in terms of his quality and the picture he has on the football pitch. I think the guy’s pure quality,” Keane added.

“He’ll be disappointed again he hasn’t scored but great day for him, very comfortable.”
