England captain Jos Buttler got into a verbal exchange with South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen during the second ODI of the three-match series on Sunday, January 29. Buttler’s England who lost the series on Sunday, despite putting up a massive total of 342 runs, lost their cool on the field as well, with umpires forced to separate the two players.
The event occurred while South Africa’s skipper Temba Bavuma was attacking the opposition in the 19th over of their innings. Buttler, who was struggling to reach the ball, yelled at the hitter that he was blocking his way.
Buttler said to van der Dussen, “I’m trying to go to the ball,” and the South African batter said, “I’ve seen you.
The microphone then picked up the on-field umpire screaming instructions for both players to settle down and keep playing.
After David Miller, who appears to be in top form, launched a late onslaught, the situation for England in the game got even worse.
Following up on his first-match heroics, Miller scored 58* from 37 balls to end South Africa’s best chase against England at home.
The Proteas won significant points in the ICC Super League points standings, where they are currently ranked ninth. For direct entry into the ICC World Cup, which will be held in India in October and November, South Africa must finish in the top eight. To qualify for the 2023 World Cup, South Africa still needs to win one game against England and two against the Netherlands.
