A heartwarming video from the London Marathon, which shows the crowd cheering the last finisher of the marathon, is winning over the internet. In the video, Tom Durnin, a resident of Banbury in Oxfordshire, trudges to the finishing line as people applaud him. Durnin accepts the medal and tiredly poses for the camera with a thumbs-up sign.
To support the Bone Cancer Research Trust, Durnin ran the marathon. His crowdfunding campaign had raised £9,036 (about 9.2 lakh) as of Tuesday, above the £2,500 (around 2.5 lakh) goal.
The London Marathon’s official Twitter account posted a video of Durnin crossing the finish line along with the caption, “One of the greatest moments of every London Marathon – your 2023 final finisher.”We admire your commitment to completing the task at hand. We run together for “#LondonMarathon”.
This video gathered over 1.3 million views and over 42,000 likes so far. Commenting on it, a Twitter user wrote, “Amazing!!! Absolutely amazing. Finished before all of us sat at home who didn’t even start it!! 🙌🏻 Takes absolute courage, resilience and sheer determination that! 👏🏻”.
Another person said, “Love that there’s still a crowd there to cheer him home. Congratulations Sir. Truly inspirational. We can’t all be Mo Farrah but everyone can take part and do their best. 🫶🤩”.
This year 48,000 runners took part in the London Marathon that was held on April 23. Winner Kelvin Kiptum became the world’s second fastest finisher of a 42-kilometre marathon with a time of 2:01:25. Other than this, 44 people broke unique Guinness world records at the race.
