Apple Arcade gamers can now use some of the best controllers with iOS

The good news is that 8BitDo has updated its top-notch third-party controllers to support Apple’s phones, tablets, and laptops. This is terrific news for users of iOS devices and Apple Arcade subscribers.

Today, 8BitDo announced that its selection of controllers are now formally compatible with devices running iOS, tvOS, and macOS. The Apple TV 4K streaming gadget, MacBook Air, and iPhone 14 are all included. Simply check that the hardware you’ve chosen has the most recent firmware update installed.

The amazing 8BitDo Ultimate and the 8BitDo Pro 2 are among the supported controllers. Also, you must ensure that your controller has the most recent firmware, which you can wirelessly update using the 8BitDo mobile app.

Also, 8BitDo has assured TechRadar Gaming that the controllers’ packaging will be modified to indicate support for iOS devices as well as consoles like the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch and the top Android phones.

Below is a list of the controllers for which 8BitDo has confirmed iOS support. Other of the company’s pads will reportedly get the update in the future, too.

  • 8BitDo Ultimate Controller
  • 8BitDo Pro 2
  • 8BitDo SN30 Pro +
  • 8BitDo Pro
  • 8BitDo SN30 Pro for Android
  • 8Bitdo Lite SE

I’ve previously extolled the virtues of 8BitDo’s controllers. For instance, the 8BitDo Ultimate is ranked first in our shopping guide for the best Nintendo Switch controllers. And in my opinion, the pad is of higher quality than the one included with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. The great build quality, remappable back buttons, and decent battery life of the Ultimate are partly to blame for this.

I believe that this is particularly good news for Apple Arcade players. Because to a collection of enticing exclusives and affordability throughout the whole Apple ecosystem, Apple’s gaming subscription service is only improving over time. Apple Arcade is now much more appealing thanks to the availability of some of the top third-party controllers in the industry.

I’d also love to see an iOS compatibility upgrade for the wireless arcade stick from 8BitDo in the future. It’s one of our top combat sticks, and given that Apple Arcade’s game selection is mostly quickplay, it would fit in perfectly there.
