When the Nothing Phone 1 was introduced last year, it was priced at $500 and was positioned as a midrange gadget. The choice implied that it provided excellent value, and it undoubtedly impressed. However, the specifications fell short of what we had anticipated for the debut smartphone from Carl Pei’s new company.
But it’s anticipated that the Nothing Phone 2 will be a more expensive smartphone. We shall now explore what we know about smartphones.
Phone 2: Price and Availability for Nothing
With some of its specifications already confirmed, we can assume that the Nothing Phone 2 will cost more than its predecessor. And we’d like to believe the device will come to market at around $700. That price would put it right next to the Google Pixel 7 and the OnePlus 11, which offer flagship-level experiences without too much brunt on your wallet.
When it comes to availability, Nothing made a significant choice by deciding to ignore the United States and concentrate on the European and Asian markets. This approach is changing with the Phone 2, and it is anticipated that the product will be offered at launch.
The Nothing Phone 1 was released in July 2022, and according to Carl Pei’s most recent interview with Forbes, its successor will be released at roughly the same time in July 2023.

Design
One of the first teases for the Nothing Phone 2 showed us what the device’s rear panel would resemble. The translucent design, complete with all the tiny shards of plastic and the glyph in place, will continue for another year.
If something that was a key feature of the original phone was eliminated, it would come as quite a shock. The equal bezels on the front panel and the squared-off borders are other features that we think will endure.
Processor
Since MWC, there have been numerous hints that the Nothing Phone 2 will come with a Qualcomm 8 Series chipset. Carl Pei announced on May 18, 2023, that the handset will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Along with other quality-of-life enhancements, the chipset is certain to boost processor and camera performance, with the former being about 80% greater than that provided by the Nothing Phone 1.
Carl Pei’s announcement expanded on the general improvement with five points outlining why the processor is perfect for the phone. He also mentioned how the processor’s 4nm fabrication and time spent in testing make it a great choice for the phone and tie into the brand vision of providing users with a comprehensive package.
Battery
In addition, Carl Pei’s Forbes interview revealed that the Phone 2 will come with a 4,700 mAh battery, which is 200 mAh higher than the Nothing Phone 1. In our testing, the predecessor’s battery lasted a day, but a more potent processor will require more power, so we’re delighted the Nothing Phone 2 has a bigger battery.
There hasn’t been any recent information on charging efficiency. We would love to see similar charging times on the Nothing Phone 2, which supports 33W fast charging and got the phone fully charged in just over an hour.
Now, it would be fantastic if more charging capacity was included to the phone, as it would give it a benefit over rival products like the Pixel 7 (maybe), providing customers more reasons to think about the device from Nothing.

The brand itself has revealed a lot of the information we know about the Nothing Phone 2, but there are some rumours circulating that cover the areas that haven’t been discussed. We’ve collated these rumours below and included some of our opinions and wishes.
Display
First up is the display. The Nothing Phone 1 shipped with a 6.55-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display that achieved a respectable brightness level of 500 nits. Rumors only indicate the next generation will have a 6.7-inch display that will maintain the 120Hz and OLED technology.
We hope the upcoming device will increase typical brightness, going up to 700-800 nits; this will help improve the readability of the display during outdoor use. As for wishful thinking, it would be great to see narrower bezels.
Author’s thoughts: If asked personally, I wish Nothing would choose to make a more handy device with a smaller display. A 6.3 or 6.4-inch panel would feel great in hand.
RAM and Storage
Other phones sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 have shipped with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and bundle 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. We’ve seen Nothing offer similar variants before, and it wouldn’t be a shock if Nothing repeats this once again.
Camera
The Nothing Phone 2’s camera technology will be one of the greatest points of debate and a deciding factor in how much people value it. For its price, the Nothing Phone 1 functioned admirably, and it got better over time in many respects.
One enhancement we’d want to see in the Nothing Phone 2 is the addition of a third camera, possibly with a telephoto lens. This would increase the camera’s versatility. We would prefer to see updated sensors for the wide and ultrawide cameras, particularly for the latter, if a third camera is not available.
