In India, 92% of visitors choose to go on domestic excursions.

A multinational travel technology business has released its Summer Vacation Index 2023, which tracks consumer travel mood across India this summer. According to the research, travel is once again on the rise, with 82% of Indians planning trips this summer. With an astounding 92% of people planning to vacation within the country, the COVID travel restriction-induced trend of rediscovering our own country’s beauty is also still going strong.

Early in 2022, as travel attitudes began to improve, the majority of people flew to visit friends and relatives they hadn’t seen since the pandemic’s commencement. However, the preferences for this year completely change. According to the survey, 59% of travellers wanted to travel for relaxation and renewal, followed by 19% of thrill-seekers looking for adventure this summer.

Last summer, friends were the most popular choice for trip companions, but this year, families are more popular. 25% of people want to travel with friends, 34% want to vacation with family. 9% of people intend to travel alone this summer. Shorter getaways and staycations of 1-3 days continue to be the popular desire with over 51% of the upvotes.

Summertime is ideal for both, whether you want to take a tranquil walk in the mountains or indulge in some margaritas at the beach. Mountains are the obvious winner this summer with 30% of the vote, closely followed by beaches at 26%. Manali, Kashmir, Mcleod Ganj, Ooty, and Coorg are the top mountain resorts in India, in that order.

Goa continues to remain India’s top beach destination, with 50% of the population intending to visit. Compared to the same time last year, Goa’s hotel demand has increased by more than 20%. Andaman and Nicobar, Kerala, Pondicherry, and Gokarna came after that.

13% of respondents said they would like to visit places of pilgrimage to deepen their spirituality. After Vaishno Devi and Varanasi, Kedarnath became the most popular pilgrimage site with the start of the Char Dham Yatra in late April.
