Sony has made a notable change to how PlayStation Plus free game purchases work that should alleviate a frustrating part of the process. Going forward, acquiring one of each month’s unlocked PlayStation Plus titles will no longer result in an email stating, “Thank you for your purchase.” But because PlayStation Plus members never actually completed a purchase, these emails frequently came off as perplexing or even worrisome. After some time, Sony finally seems to have stopped the practise.
PlayStation console users that subscribe to PlayStation Plus receive exclusive features that are not ordinarily available to non-subscribers. For instance, premium games’ multiplayer elements are not accessible to users without a membership. PlayStation Plus Essential, the entry-level plan, also offers free games every month for users to download and play. Although they are advertised with a price of 0, subscribers must first “purchase” them from the PlayStation Store in order to access them.
It has been reasonable to receive an email saying “Thank you for your purchase” given how PlayStation Plus free monthly games are distributed. After all, it is technically a purchase. Just recently, the cost was reduced to nothing. The fact that subscribers haven’t really completed a transaction makes the communication irritating. There was no cost to them in the deal. Additionally, the email could lead recipients to believe they made an unintentional purchase. Sony reportedly concurs and had the option to end the practise permanently.
However, some people are dubious about the circumstance. Some PlayStation Plus members worry that they don’t have a receipt for buying the game if they don’t receive an email. Some PlayStation Plus members want proof on hand even if it’s connected to their account, so Sony can’t just withdraw a game’s licence with no recourse. Although there is no proof that Sony would ever act in that manner, it is true that without an email receipt, it might be feasible. Perhaps in the future Sony will reinstate PlayStation Plus game acquisition emails with a more precise message.
